Our Universal Access Garden PBL

Six weeks ago, at the start of our universal access garden PBL, we were presented with this driving question: How can we enhance our school garden to ensure that it is regularly used for learning in all grade levels?

To do this, we would write a grant to the Whole Kids Foundation. First, we read through different articles and highlighted the parts we thought were important. Later on, we used the information to provide proof for our grant.

Next, we read all the questions of the grant and split up into groups to answer them. We used the strong language from the articles to improve our answers.

After working on it for a long time, we also used the proof from the earlier articles. This made the grant sound better.

After that we split into groups again to edit and revise other people’s grants. We didn’t correct anything major, only small stuff.

Next we made a map of what our garden will maybe look like. This is the map that we chose.

We then sent out the grant, but that is not the end of the story. Me and a group of other kids (Suprab, Alexi, Avika, Rudra, and Esteban) had the privilege to present our PBL to the Cupertino Union School District office. Everything went well.

Wish us luck that we get the grant!
